Recording Against Regimes

European Union Delegation in Egypt responded to the events of the Arab Spring and its aftermath by launching a cultural programme “Revolution Meets the Arts.” As part of it, ARCHiNOS is preparing an exhibition/presentation/installation of experimental video work and documentary cinema generated by the momentous events in Poland in the 1980s, in Germany when the Berlin Wall fell, and in Egypt now. As protests and counter-protests are unfolding in front of ARCHiNOS headquarters in Heliopolis, and Egyptian visual artists react fervently to the new reality, it may be useful to step back and see how fateful events in the past inspired art. What are the similarities? What are the differences?
