The Fruit-seller's Mosque Protected by ARCHiNOS
2 February 2014
The team of ARCHiNOS Architecture completed repairs to the roof over al-Fakahani Mosque just in time – before heavy rains hit Cairo in mid-February. This was another project where the Cultural Emergency Response programme of the Prince Claus Fund lent a helping hand in response to a disaster affecting a cultural property. It is satisfying to see the danger of collapse averted from an 18th-century structure that is part of a building more than 800 years old and located on the main street of Mediaeval Cairo. However, other sections of the mosque are also seriously endangered. At ARCHiNOS, we hope to be able to resume the work soon.
