Sultan’s Festival

Sultan Qaitbey himself, surrounded by his fearsome Mamluks, greeted the guests arriving on 8 July 2015 to the Sultan’s Festival that marked the completion of ARCHiNOS’ project in the “City of the Dead”. People of every possible walk of life joined in the celebration of the Sultan’s glory and the skills of local craftsmen: high-ranking Egyptian officials including the Minister of Antiquities and the Governor of Cairo, Ambassador of the European Union and other ambassadors and diplomats, journalists, numerous Egyptian and foreign guests, artisans displaying their work, and people of the neighbourhood, including hundreds of children who enjoyed attractions set up for them. In front of the Sultan’s magnificent mosque, there were performances, food stands, fireworks, screening of a documentary produced by the project, and more – in addition to the speeches of the official opening.
