Lecture by Prof Doris Behrens-Abouseif

On Sunday, 29 January 2017, the distinguished scholar Prof Doris Behrens-Abouseif of the Department of the History of Art and Archaeology, SOAS University of London, gave a public lecture Antiquity in Medieval Egypt: The Testimony in Text and Stone in the maq'ad of Sultan Qaitbey, which was filled to its full capacity on this occasion. The lecture marked the launch of the book Art, Trade and Culture in the Islamic World and Beyond: From the Fatimids to the Mughals, a collection of studies by leading scholars dedicated to Prof Behrens Abuseif. It was published by the Ginkgo Library, which is a UK-registered charity with the mission to increase crucial understanding of the Middle East, West Asia and North Africa region through academic publications, annual conferences and the Gingko Scholarship. The Gingko Library was established in 2014 in the memory of Werner Mark Linz, the late publisher of the American University in Cairo Press.
