Events in the Maq'ad of Sultan Qaitbey cultural hub
hip-hop creative workshops and performance
16-17 December 2017
Next Level works with U.S. embassies and consulates to create two-weeks residencies that reach underserved communities and youth. Teams of American hip-hop artists/educators, in collaboration with local organisations and musicians, facilitate workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and master classes, as well as formal and informal live performances. All activities are designed to promote mutual sharing of knowledge, values, perspectives, and respect between local populations and American artists.
Next Level artists Kervin Young (beatmaker), Ryan Webb (dancer), Desi Mundo (writer/aerosol artist), Miki Vale (mc) and Junious Lee Brickhose (dancer) conducted workshops with Egyptian artists in and around the maq‘ad of Sultan Qaitbey on 16 December 2017. The final performance showcasing the results of their workshops and collaborations was held in the maq‘ad’s front courtyard on 17 December 2017.
The event was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in Cooperation with ARCHiNOS and the Sultan Foundation.
