From Cairo to London
17 May 2018
As part of London Craft Week, on 10 May 2018 Agnieszka Dobrowolska and Bill Amberg gave a public lecture in the esteemed Leighton House Museum in London, presenting our team’s work in the ‘City of the Dead’ in Cairo that is primarily funded by the EU. The focus of the talk was the current project funded by the Alfanar Foundation and carried out by the Sultan Foundation, a not-for-profit sister organisation of ARCHiNOS. Bill Amberg, a renowned British designer, took part in training courses in Cairo where women of the Qaitbey neighbourhood learn designing and manufacturing leather goods so they can augment their households’ incomes while working from home. The London event, which was very well attended, was an occasion to present and sell the very first batch of beautiful products in the new “Mishkā” line designed by Bill and made by local women.
