ARCHiNOS in Search for a Lost Palace
6 August 2018
A huge-scale cleaning operation has begun as part of ARCHiNOS EU-funded project in the Sultan Qaitbey area of Cairo’s ‘City of the Dead’ in the lot once occupied by the Sultan’s palace. The only surviving part of the palace, a grand reception hall or maq‘ad has been conserved by ARCHiNOS and turned into a place for art and culture in the neighbourhood. The current project intends to open other sections of the Qaitbey’s huge complex to the public to serve both the local community and a broader public. We are eager to learn what secrets of the forgotten royal palace will be revealed and expect to see wonderful things.
