"Sultan's Fair" for the Fifth Time
21 October 2018
Each of the “Sultan’s Fairs” offered various events and attractions, but the 5th fair held in the Qaitbey area of the ‘City of the Dead’ on 20 and 21 October 2018 was particularly diverse. Besides the kites-flying competition for the children of the neighbourhood, there was a lecture by Agnieszka Dobrowolska (presenting to the Cairo audience the talk about ARCHiNOS work first given in Leighton House Museum in London on 4 October), a 3-D mapping show on the façade of the Sultan’s maq‘ad created by the Italian artists Raffaele Fiorella and Alessandro Vangi, and a contemporary dance performance choreographed by Mirette Mechail integrated with the 3-D projection. All that in addition to the crafts and art fair lasting two days, where local craftspeople as well as artists and crafts makers from all over Cairo and beyond presented and sold their wares.
