Screening of documentary films: MegaCities-ShortDocs award winners

1 August 2019

MegaCities-ShortDocs is a Citizen Film Festival that highlights, through short documentaries, inspiring local initiatives which bring effective solutions to problems encountered by megacities around the world: places that present many opportunities, but also concentrate challenges.

With their short documentary Cold Dissent, Taher ‘Abd al-Ghani and Ahmad “Zizo” ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, both ARCHiNOS’ long-time collaborators, won the Best Short Film prize at the Biennale Spazio Pubblico festival in Rome in its 5th edition in 2019. This meant pride and joy for everybody at ARCHiNOS.

On 1 August 2019, Taher and Ahmad screened at the Maq‘ad of Sultan Qaitbey their award-winning film and 14 other short documentaries that had won awards in the festival’s three earlier editions.

Taher ‘Abd al-Ghani gave a presentation Film: A Tool for Social Change, arguing in words and in moving and still images that film can be more than entertainment, it can be a vehicle for meaningful change.
