Daughters of the Nile Sculpture Exhibition

March 2020 – 30 September 2020

To mark the International Women’s day in 2020, ARCHiNOS and our sister organisation the Sultan Foundation invited sculptors to exhibit their work on the subject of womanhood.

Many sculptors responded, presenting pieces in widely varied materials, techniques and styles and with very diverse approaches to their subject. Some are established and esteemed artists, other are at the outset of their careers. The participation was open for all; we were surprised to learn how many women sculptors are active in Egypt.

The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and resulting restrictions on public gatherings precluded opening the exhibition to the public as planned. Not all works selected for display could be delivered to the oratory of al-Gulshani where the exhibition is held before introduction of the lock-down measures.

So far, the artworks could only be viewed and enjoyed on-line on this website and on the MASQ Facebook page. Now, however, the exhibition is scheduled to be fully open to the public on 15 September and  to remain on display until the end of the month.

The exhibition is a part of a larger  project Heritage for the Living  in the ‘City of the Dead’ carried out by ARCHiNOS with funding primarily from the European Union, and is co-sponsored by the Drosos Foundation.
