#VisitQaitbey Photo Competition

19 February 2022

In autumn 2021 and in early 2022, ARCHiNOS organised four photographic and video recording guided walking tours through the “Desert of the Mamluks” area of the ‘City of the Dead’ in Cairo, conducted by ‘Amr Abotawila, the Programme Officer of ARCHiNOS. The participants were encouraged to submit their work for a photographic and video reels competition. The response was far beyond expectations. The walks were extremely popular and the jury had to select the images for the exhibition from more than 1,500 entries.

The selected images were then posted on-line for the public to vote and choose the winners, while exhibited the photographs and video reels by all finalists were put on a public exhibition in the Maq‘ad  of Sultan Qaitbey Cultural Centre in February-March and May 2022.

The opening event on 19 February 2022 was preceded by a well-attended walking tour guided by Jaroslaw Dobrowolski and a presentation of ARCHiNOs work in the area given by Agnieszka Dobrowolska.

The event was part of activities of the not-for-profit sister organisation of ARCHiNOS, the Sultan Foundation, which is funded primarily by the European Union and the DROSOS Foundation.
