Mediterranean Music and Egyptian Crafts

Another “Sultan’s Fair” took place in the square in front of the maq‘ad of Sultan Qaitbey on 10 May 2022, where visitors could shop for top-quality handmade products from the neighbourhood and from Cairo at large. The public could also enjoy a concert by Estabena band, the Mediterranean Sea Music Project that brings together musicians and tunes from around the Mediterranean. The bend performs songs from Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Spain, France, Italy, Lebanon and Syria. Estabena is an Egyptian word borrowed from the Italian language, which means “we agree”.

On the same day, visitors participating in the Interfaith Retreat conference organised by the Gingko Library were guided by ARCHiNOS personnel on a walking tour through Cairo neighbourhoods including the “Desert of the Mamluks” and attended the concert, which was generously sponsored by the Gingko Library, a U.K.-based charitable foundation dedicated to promoting dialogue with the Middle East, West Asia, and North Africa.
