Al-Fakahani Mosque, Cairo

The conservation planning project resulted in an implementation –ready work plan and specifications for architectural conservation of a mosque located on the main street of mediaeval Cairo. It was originally built in the twelfth century, and rebuilt in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries; the project research resulted in many new insights into the history and significance of the building. The work was funded by the Getty Foundation in Los Angeles, USA trough the Leiden University and affiliated with the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo. The team comprised the world’s leading experts in Islamic art, architectural history, and conservation.

Pending funding for implementation phase.

In 2013, ARCHiNOS Architecture carried out emergency repairs to a section of the roof that was threatened with imminent collapse.
