The Pharaohs Exhibition, Manama, Bahrain

Agnieszka Dobrowolska, who was soon to found ARCHiNOS, was commissioned to design the exhibition “The Pharaohs” presenting 120 masterpieces of ancient Egyptian art in the National Museum of Bahrain which was displayed in April – July 2007. The work included full design of the displays and supervision of their implementation. The enterprise derived from an exhibition of 300 objects curated by the renowned French Egyptologist Christiane Ziegler that since 2002 had been displayed with remarkable success in Venice, Paris, Madrid and Valencia.

The exhibition offered a view on the ancient Egyptian kings from two perspectives: in their powerful, monumental images and also as human persons who recognized themselves as divine intermediaries. The site-specific design for the architecturally outstanding Bahrain National Museum aimed at creating exhibition spaces that allowed the objects to be viewed in a contemplative way, and to create an ambience evoking their original context.

Commissioned by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities.
